While using phones with multiple cameras, it is possible that the camera setting is set to capture images that are 30 or 40 MB or even 100 MB+. Uploading such large images are not supported on the Gorilla Expense app. This article talks about how to capture images that are smaller in size or how to resize images that are already stored in the phone’s photo gallery.

Reducing Size of the Images Captured by the Phone’s Camera

If a user's device has multiple cameras, there is a good chance that the primary camera has a larger sensor and will therefore produce a large image by default. For instance, a 108 MP camera may be able to produce images that are larger than 30 to 40 MB, and occasionally even over 100 MB.

The user can upload a receipt file from the Android App by choosing the "Camera" option if they want to attach it to an “Expense” or upload it to the "Receipt Box" in the Gorilla Expense Application. However, the “Gorilla Expense Android App” prevents the user from uploading a receipt that is 25MB or more in size and displays the following warning message instead:

In this scenario, the user is required to resize the image size below 25 MB. It can be done by updating a small setting in the “Camera” app by following the steps below:

  1. Click the “Ratio” option (resolution ratio) of the current camera setting as shown in the screenshot below, by default, it is set to a “3:4” ratio in most of the devices. If in your phone, the 50 MP or 108 MP option is set, please change it to 3:4 or 1:1.

2. After choosing the preferred ratio, capture the picture of the receipt and upload it. The alert that was previously displayed shouldn't appear and the receipt should successfully upload.

Resizing Images Already Present in Phone’s Photo Gallery

The user can upload a receipt file from the Gorilla Expense App by choosing the "Photo Gallery" option. However, the Gorilla Expense App prevents the user from uploading a receipt that is 25MB or more in size and displays the following warning message instead:

Typically, if your camera is in a super high-resolution mode, you will end up clicking pictures that are very big in size. In this scenario, the user is required to resize the image size below 25 MB. Or change the camera settings to take images that are not large. To resize existing images present in the photo gallery, follow the steps below. These steps will be more or less the same on most Android phones:

  1. For reducing the size of the desired image, the user must first “open” the image in the native “Gallery App”.
  2. After the image is opened, click on the Edit icon (Pencil Edit Icons - Free SVG & PNG Pencil Edit Images - Noun ...) as shown in the screenshot below. Once the image is opened in the “Edit: mode, click on the three dots at the bottom-right corner as shown in the screenshot below.

3. On clicking on the 3-dot, the “Resize” option will be shown as shown in the screenshot below. When you select the "Resize" option, several "Resize Image" alternatives are displayed for downsizing the receipt. Select the “Resize Image" option in such a way that the image size will be less than 25 MB. In most cases, a 40% or 20% option should work. If the receipt size is still above 25MB after resizing, the user should resize it further in the same manner by repeating Steps 1 through 5 until the receipt reaches a size below 25 MB.
